|
|
I've recently updated my laptop from a long period of neglect - some time soon after 2.6.24-tuxonice-r9 sources were released. I managed to update system successfully and update most of world afterwards.
I'm now running on kernel 2.6.30-tuxonice-r6 and have recompiled xorg and all associated drivers against the new kernel with the new GCC.
When I load X the session (startx or by running Slim) the computer locks with a blank screen before anything is displayed, although it is still possible to SSH into the machine. When I run ps aux I can't find anything related to X. No errors appear in /var/log/messages but the message "(WW) VGA arbiter: cannot open kernel arbiter, no multi-card support" appears at the end of the Xorg log.
I removed my xorg.conf in an attempt to get it to load as well as instructing X to use a specific xorg.conf created from Xorg -configure
I have attached /var/log/Xorg.0.log, the output of lspci and the kernel .config.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds to me like you've built X with hal support but you've not started hal. Try starting hal before starting X. _________________ Configuring a Firewall? Try my iptables configuration

Hal has been running the whole time, and I copied the config of the hal rules from the Gentoo Xorg handbook into the correct directories. |

Feel like trying a vanilla kernel, just to see what happens? They do have hibernation support, it just isn't very reliable : ). But I don't suggest abandoning tuxonice, just isolating the problem. Can't very well do that by removing the X side of the equation, I'd imagine. _________________ Configuring a Firewall? Try my iptables configuration
