I have a SGI Octane at home with a R10K CPU, (sorry I speak english a little)
IRIX is nice but old now, I tried to install Linux few monthes ago. It didn't work due to a too old netwok linux image for the installation. And the latest kernel didn't work for IP30.
I'm trying OpenBSD, it works fine and very easy to install, but no X.
What's the LinuxMips status theses days ?
