|
|
When trying to boot using the 1.4 i686 LiveCD, I get following error messages:
Quote: |
hdc: ide/cd driver attached
hdc: lost interrupt
|
and a few other interrupt losses for the other cd drives. It's not a bios setting or something, because I can normally boot with a Red Hat 8.0 Installation CD.
Is there anyone also having this problem? Or someone who knows the sollution for this pain in the ass?
Greetings,

Sounds like the kernel on the CD has problems with your HD controller.
Try turning off DMA in the kernel when u boot the CD. I think the option is 'ide=nodma'.
This means you wont have DMA enabled while you install gentoo but once its installed u'll have a more uptodate kernel, or else different sources that have better suport for ur chipset.
What chipset are u using anyway?

I'm using an AMD Athlon 800 mhz, dunno what mobo. The CD-player is an LG ide cd player. When i put in a RedHat installation CD it all works fine... I'm gonna try the nodma now...

It still isn't working. There is nothing wrong with the cd drive, my writer loses its interrupt too... I still think it's strange that the gentoo kernel can't boot but RedHat can...
