My kde works fine, seems I am missing a few things. system settings I have no multimedia section. (sound is fine) when I plug in a thumb drive or cd, I have no pop up telling me a new device has been found. Can go to computer and select from list though. I may be missing more features...not sure.
I am using a ~86 system and have [2] selected for my profile. I just noticed that that [4] is for a kde desktop, I suspect I should be using that.
When I update, is always something for kde that I need to unmask in selinux and package.mask. And there is [11] for selinux desktop.
This just makes me want to ask, If some kind person could point me to a link on profile settings, or take a min to clear this up.
I may just be missing a use flag yet also...not sure. |

Nah can't be so. You are not correct here.
If you are using mostly KDE as desktop then eselect the desktop/kde profile.
You will be fine. If you need another USE flag then KDE will tell you. No worries.
Be cool.

Thanks for the reply, when you say

I may have fudged a bit about always in selinux...have been in there a few times unmasking things.
I believe that I could not be correct, just not sure which part you think is not correct.
I will switch it to the kde profile, This is my longest running install yet and have many hours into it. It is a totally bloated gentoo desktop with kde, gimp, oo, xbmc list goes on.
I luvs it exactly as is, am cautious about changes I make. Just curious now about what I am wrong about and missed.
here is the emerge --info

Ok your box can take some punishment.
Well that's how we learn all this stuff here.
Install everything loaded full, play around with it and strip it down until it's how you really like it.
Have fun. Make mistakes, we can help you fix...
Bye for now. |
