passwords no longer recognised (forget it - solved)

This is not really an installation issue but it does not fit easily anywhere else neither.

I made a number of changes in my kernel (related to visualization) and installed virtualbox, rebooted and now I have problems with kdm, with Kontact and with "su -".

In all cases, my password no longer seems to be recognized. After a number of trials, I can get through with kdm and Kontact (Kwallet) but no success with "su -".

Typing the password in clear or doing some other typing (like preparing this message) shows that there is no problem with my keyboard. I do not have the slightest idea where to look (and I really do not want to re-install everything).

Anyone a suggestion?

SOLUTION: a few minutes later, I realized that I was mixing up passwords of different machines
