I downloaded the minimal install cd, burnt the iso to cd, popped it into my computer and restarted, when it loads at start up it runs to the point where it says
"
>>attempting to mount media :- /dev/sda1
>>attempting to mount media :- /dev/sda2
>>attempting to mount media :- /dev/sda3
>>attempting to mount media :- /dev/sda5
>>attempting to mount media :- /dev/hda
>>looking for the cdrom
!!no bootable medium found. waiting for new devices...
>>attempting to mount media :- /dev/sda1
>>attempting to mount media :- /dev/sda2
>>attempting to mount media :- /dev/sda3
>>attempting to mount media :- /dev/sda5
>>attempting to mount media :- /dev/hda
!! media not fount
!! Could not find CD to boot, something else is needed!
>> Determining root devide ...
!! could not find the root block device in .
"
any ideas? |

Use system rescue cd (rescue64 at the boot prompt if a 64 bit install is intended) or any other livecd of the same bitness as your intended install that will boot. The minimal cd is a convenience, not a necessity, none of the cd becomes part of the install. |

Indeed and SystemRescueCD use almost all the time the latest kernel, so it can boot on almost everything |
