First off, sorry for the cross post... I also posted this in the laptop section hoping someone who may have bought a similar computer can help:
Im trying to install Gentoo on an Averatec 3500H laptop but it hangs when I attempt to boot from the installation cd.
The last line printed to the screen is:
Code: | Starting USB and PCI hotplugging |
I've tred booting with nosci, acpi=on etc. without any luck. Can someone tell me if this is futile? I don't want to have to take this laptop back as I got a good deal on it. |

I had the exact same problem (laptop again, but not the same make).
Are you using the "basic" live CD? I had this problem using that, but not the full first CD.
As a workaround, use the "nohotplug" option - but be aware that this disables USB and PCI hardware autodetection (well, seemed to on my machine, anyway), so if you have a PCI network card, you'll need to modprobe the relevant driver manually. |

sink-le my dink-le you fink-le that was easy! I was using a pre-release 1.4 install disk... I downloaded the latest iso and bing-o bang-o bonz-o.
