|
|
Hello,
The clock latency problem isn't due to KDE or its mixer:
-> I'm not having the mixer installed and noticed
the lag without X started.
It also ain't a problem of timezone and the adjtime file:
-> right timezone + link is set.
And it couldn't be due to Gentoo or its kernel
-> I also had the problem a year ago under
Linux Slackware.
Because people witnessed a change in the lag according to CPU-usage it
could have something to do with power management:
/usr/src/linux <make menuconfig>
general settings:
if 'Advanded Power Management BIOS support' is enabled
then disable 'ACPI support'
and certainly 'Enable PM at boot time'
when 'make CPU idle calls when idle' is set
alternatively:
enable 'ACPI support'
instead of 'Advanced Power Management BIOS support'
After recompilation of the 2.4.18-kernel (vanilla), I deleted the /etc/adjtime and changed
the clock through the BIOS, everything worked fine.
Kind regards,
A belgian gentoo user |

Yep thats sound good to me.
I had a similar problem whit a Freebsd server. We removed the power management out of the kernel and evrything was running faster than its should on the machine ( the clock was running 2x faster ).The cron jobs and even the output of ping was screwd.
We put the power management back in and the problem was fix. check out on this was guys |
