Console output slowing down emerge

Not sure how to explain what I mean but is it possible for a wrong/stupid vga= in grub.conf to slow down emerge? Like the terminal can't write the output quick enough?

Using a framebuffer console (especially without hardware scrolling) will slow down the system during text display. When I was installing gentoo on a wii (with a horrid yuv framebuffer implementation), I would switch to another virtual terminal to speed it up.

If your framebuffer allows it, try using the ywrap or ypan options (ywrap is preferable), this should improve speed a lot.
