Sorry to hijack this thread, but I currently have virtualbox 3.0.12 and would like to upgrade to the latest version, but have no idea how to do it. I have the bin version as I have usb capabilities. However, when I run emerge -av virtualbox-bin, it shows the same version I already have.

emerge -av virtualbox-bin

* IMPORTANT: 13 news items need reading for repository 'gentoo'.
* Use eselect news to read news items.

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild I R ] app-emulation/virtualbox-bin-3.0.12 USE="additions chm python sdk -headless -vboxwebsrv" 0 kB

Total: 1 package (1 reinstall, 1 interactive), Size of downloads: 0 kB

Would you like to merge these packages? [Yes/No]

thanks

unmask it by keywording the package, and any modules that go with that package (check out package.keywords)

the latest builds are ~arch masked

Cachorro,

That did the trick. Do I also need input & video drivers? I dont remember installing them before.

emerge -av virtualbox-bin

AFAIK the virtualbox-bin ebuild automatically pulls all of the drivers necessary for the host

Depending on what you're running within the guest OS, you may well end up needing to install drivers for video/input *within the guest*

That's as far as I go, I haven't touched vbox in years, anything breaks on the guest I'm useless :)
