I'm trying to set up my gentoo box as a fiewall/vpn server/samba server, and am having some trouble with netbios name resolution across the VPN link.

shorewall is configured to allow the VPN to pass through, and I am able to connect from the net side with no problem. eth1, ppp0, and ppp1 are all set up in the local zone.

In the diagram below, the linux box is the VPN server, and shorewall box. I also have samba configured to act as a WINS server on this box as well.

I am able to see shared folders on Win box 2 when I'm connected to the VPN only when I use the IP address, though the NetBIOS name does appear in workgroup. when I double click on the name in network neighboorhood, it says the computer is not accessable.

Code:

              _______
 _____        |      |    ______
|Win  |      |linux |    |Win  |
|box 2|------|box   |----|box 1|
|_____|      |______|    |_____|

Thanks in advance for any help.

I think I found the answer here. I'll post back if this works.
