I`ve just gotten my KDE desktop up and running, I`ve done everything accourding to the desktop guide here on gentoo.
When I start a session the graphics looks like i`m running on 256 color depth, but the resolution is 1600x1200 and color depth 24 bit. The nvidia module is working fine accourding to lsmod, it said (unused) a couple of times but i fixed that (have no idea how i did it)
It said in the guide that if U re-compile the kernel U also have to re-combile the nvidia-kernel, I did emerge nvidia-kernel another time as this was the closest i could get to re-compiling it. Is this the way to re-compile the kernel?
I know this is probably a really easy thing to solve, so I`ve tried to fix it myself by reading the help files in KDE and searching all the menus, but no dice.
Tnx for any help! _________________ Let the money shine! |

You should be able to see what XFree is up to by poking around in it's log file at /var/log/XFree86.0.log. Somewhere in there it should give you a line telling exactly what color depth it's loading, along with lots of other useful tidbits for finding problems.
Posting the XF86Config file here might also help, as everyone makes syntax errors once in a while, and other sets of eyes are always welcome.
Good luck! |
