Hello, don't know if this is the right forum or maybe desktop environments.
With kde 3.1.2 (and kdemultimedia 3.1.2 too, of course) I used to play every kind of media with kaboodle (mpg, avi, mp3 to name a few).
After upgrading to kde 3.1.3 (all kde packages upgraded, including kdemultimedia) everything is fine, except that kaboodle plays only audio files and nothing else.
I try to explain better what happens: the association for video files are the same as before, i.e. if I click on a mpg video, kaboodle is automatically started...but it stays blank and doesn't play ("play" button isn't even clickable). If I try to manually open a file, the filter for the file type in the dialog box that pops up has the following entries:
"all supported types"
"Audio CD"
"OGG"
"Audio ULAW (sun)"
"unknown"
"Audio AIFF/Amiga"
"unknown"
"unknown"
"unknown"
"audio MPEG layer 3"

I suppose that where the name is "unknown" there should be some other media type (eg, mpeg etc.), but I don't know where to look to see if something is wrong.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Make that two :(

Mine no longer works either! My make.conf has not changed one iota, either.

I sure hope someone out ther can help us. There is no error output in kaboodle or noatun, and I see nothing in settings that can change this. It worked automatically for me on 3.1.2.

I appreciate any help.

Thanks

Chris

I've noticed this myself. Glad to hear it's not just my system.

I don't use kaboodle that often, but I've been experiencing the same thing since my upgrade to kde 3.1.3

I haven't found a solution yet, though I haven't been looking that hard either.

There's apparently a KDE 3.1.4 upgrade available in Portage, but I haven't installed it (or even attempted to look for it). Perhaps it will fix the problem.

I've committed a kdemultimedia 3.1.3-r1 and 3.1.4-r1 which fixes a xine-lib problem. I think this will take care of your issue. Please emerge and let me know if this still persists.

Well, 3.1.3-r1 didn't fair any better :(

I can try to compile 3.1.4-r1 over the weekend and see what happens.

This morning emerge made me update kdemultimedia 3.1.3-r1 and divx4linux20030428-r1, and this fixed the problem. Thank you very much for your help.

Bye

Sorry to bring this thread back to life. I'm having the same problem after upgrading from kde 3.2.0 to 3.2.1. Videos are no longer playing in noatun, kaboodle, konqueror... although they still play fine on mplayer 0.92-3.3.2 and xine 0.9.22. My make.conf also has the dvd flag set. Using gentoo-dev-sources 2.6.3-r1.

Am I the only one? :(

No you are not the only one.

I suspect that it has something to do with kaboodle and noatun not having execute permissions in kde for normal users.

I have tried everything to change that, but nothing I do even as root seems to make a difference.

Oh maybe we are speaking of different issues here. Kaboodle and noatun do run in kde 3.2.1 for me. They just won't open video files like they used to (mpeg, avi, asf, wma...). They still do play mp3 and ogg files just fine.
