SO near but so far.
I CANNOT seem to get on to my ISP. I have tried wvdial which does connect but
i get pppd died. I have tried pon from a script I found on this site...and it also connects
then I get Modprobe can't localte modules tty-ldisk-14. I have looked through the
kernel makefile config and I can't even find any thing that would compile to tty-lldisk-14.
This is a BRANDj new install off the CD rom gentoo 1.2. I haven't been abel to emerge
ANYTHING because I can't get onlyine...sigh.Minicom refuses to work...period.
ppp-config has made the scripts but when I do pppd call ISP...it also connects but I get
the same message about modules tty-ldisk-14...Please someone tell me what this mod
is and where I can find the source to compile it. Or even better JUST tell me how to
connect to my ISP...All I want is for pppd to dail the number then let ME handle the
login etc by terminal...then once on I can emerge rsync and start downloading stuff.

Thanks in advance..

Daniel

to be polite, here is a possible answer: http://www.onlamp.com/pub/a/onlamp/2001/05/03/ppp.html?page=2

check out the link that the guy above gave you. Make sure those aliases are set in the modules.conf. IF that does not work you will need to recompile your kernel and turn on the other ppp stuff, not just ppp support itself. I had the same problem and I compiled in all the ppp stuff that wasn't experimental and it worked after that.
