smtp authentification benefics?

Hi ppl,

I wann install a new smtp server. I have heard about smtp authentification.
But still litlle confuse about what this feature can bring to me
My question is:

Can u guy show me all the advantages/disadvantage about Smtp Authentification.

smtp authentification is important, if you want to allow remote users to send emails to remote recipients through your smtp server. If you only deliver emails to local users, or only allow local users to send emails, you shouldn't need it.
