|

We (media-tv herd) have dropped support for media-tv/ivtv, reverted all ebuilds to an unstable status (~arch). They will eventually be removed from the tree, most likely as the kernels that they rely upon disappear as well.
media-tv/ivtv is for kernels <=2.6.25, and provides both the kernel modules and IVTV utilities needed to support the V4L2 devices.
As of 2.6.26 kernels, support for IVTV has been included in the mainline kernel, and users only need to emerge media-tv/ivtv-utils _________________ If it ain't broke, tweak it. dvds | blurays | blog | wiki

Sweet. Thanks for the heads up. _________________ www.otw20.com

Just FYI...
I made a bug fix for media-tv/ivtv-utils-1.3.0-r1
I had to create media-tv/ivtv-utils-1.3.0-r2 (my custom version).
I replaced KMOD with MODULES in the kernel config dependency check in the ebuild.
ivtv-utils # diff ivtv-utils-1.3.0-r1.ebuild ivtv-utils-1.3.0-r2.ebuild
30c30
< CONFIG_CHECK="EXPERIMENTAL KMOD HAS_IOMEM FW_LOADER I2C I2C_ALGOBIT
---
> CONFIG_CHECK="EXPERIMENTAL MODULES HAS_IOMEM FW_LOADER I2C I2C_ALGOBIT
This built fine for me on 2.6.29-gentoo-r1
I also had to emerge sys-kernel/linux-headers for the latest to pickup
a fix for a missing symbol in ivtv.h |

I had to do the same things - Thanks a lot!
It should not be necessary to emerge the kernel headers as the ivtv.h is already in <kernel-source-path>/include/linux/ivtv.h - The ebuild should just include the kernel sources include.
Thanks again! |

Please excuse a probably stupid question...I"m upgrading an old box I had mythtv on using the old ivtv.
I'm now at the 2.6.31 kernel, and I'm doing
make menuconfig
I can't find any IVTV option in there...can someone tell me what I might be missing setting that will give me the option for ivtv in the kernel?
Thanks in advance,

If you try to install ivtv-utils, it'll actually tell you what kernel modules you need, and error out if you don't in the running kernel. |

It's also good to have ivtv-utils for things other than stock ivtv cards, like the cx18, and I'm sure by now there are others. I'm getting by with some hand-built stuff in /usr/local, for now. It might be good to open up the kernel mod definitions a bit, for these other similar cards. (It won't help me at the moment, since I'm running out-of-portage, out-of-kernel mercurial drivers for my cx18.) _________________ .sigs waste space and bandwidth |
