The first thing you should be doing is relax yourself.
After one beer or a cup of tea login as root and be prepared to learn a bit. You have these options as I see it:
- Restore the samba/cifs funcionality, then pick everything from windows
- Choose an alternate method, ssh is easy to setup and will allow you to log in remotely. It might even be set up already, it's very probable. WinSCP will then even allow you to login graphically and explore your files.
- Get your hands dirty. You should be able to login locally as well. If possible, please, use your own user and not root. It will truly simplify the process and also protect you from your own self.
Let us know what do you think. |

ps. Yes, I know no one ever likes to hear this. But nonetheless I'll say the magic word one again: "backups". |

I think its great
we have the samba service running now, but its not authenticating with u/n - p/w
???
I like ur ideas we dont mind trying as limited linux support here in the region,
is there a way I can pay someone something to help me fix this issue and get my files, then ill format and put centos or linux mint or something simple like ubuntoo on it,
thanks heaps for the replies, appreciate ur efforts to assist. |
