I compiled Octave successfully, but it won't open. When I start it from the gnome menu a window appears briefly and then disappears. When I start it from the command line I get this error:
Code:

octave: error while loading shared libraries: /usr/lib/libblas.so.0: R_PPC_REL24 relocation at 0x0d810ac0 for symbol 'xerbla_' out of range.

Are you on PowerPC architecture? It's possible this is a bug related to that, but I don't know enough about dynamic linking to say for sure. My guess is that library must be loaded within the 16MB (24 bits) around its caller but that constraint can't be satisfied.

It's been a while, and I decided to unmerge and then re-emerge octave just to see if anything had changed. It works now - I don't know why. This isn't really a question, just an update.
