|

Hello,
I'm using mutt and the builtin imap 'client', everything works fine as long as I have a good internet connection, but as soon as I have some network related problems(happens far too often), mutt hangs and and and...., I either have to wait like 5 minutes to have it working again or to kill and restart it...
I recently read that I could use postfix or an equivalent to forward outgoing mail to my real smtp server, postfix would be able to queue my different messages re-try to send them on its own. I've not yet tested this but this looks more than interesting to me!
Then I start wondering if there was some sort of equivalent for imap? Something that would allow me to move mails locally, and then push the changes on the 'real' server.
From what I can read, there may be offlineimap, but I also read that it could screw you sometime(on the real imap server I mean) which is not something I'd really want.
I also see there is the imapsync tool to sync between to imap servers, so it may be possible de use this to retrieve mail from my real imap server to a local one, then use imapsync to push the local change to the remote imap server?
But may be I'm just wrong from the start, fetchmail can be used to retrieve mail from an imap server, how can I push it back(after sorting,filtering,moving...)?

Wow, this is basically what I'm trying to do but with existing technology
MailNews:Better Faster IMAP Plan
I did not take the time to try the imap sync or offlineImap solution yet
EDIT: I finally took the time, and it was worth it:
- I have a smtp[d?] relay, which allow me to send my mail and forget about it, even though I do have a bad connection
- and offlineimap which does a two-way sync between my local maildir and the imap server. Again, despite the bad connection, I can work with my emails locally, offlineimap does the sync in the background
