I finally got around to installing gentoo and getting it to work properly. I must say that it is the best linux distro I have ever used and is definately worth the effort. My windows XP and redhat are both going bye-bye. |

Damn, u beat me to it!!!
I just about managed to finish a stage-3 install on my PowerBook 12", including desktop configuration. This is one wicked distro, and after the initial install it is probably the easiest to keep up to date!!! And it is SO much quicker than OS X and Windows XP! Goodbye Mac OS X...
I love you Gentoo... |

You sure about that? I have my PC running Gentoo and my TiBook running OS X, and there's NO WAY I'd ever put Gentoo on my TiBook, OS X is just so much better than everything else for PPC. Of course, Gentoo vs XP is another story |

I had a problem debating whether or not to throw Gentoo on my iBook (only 600mhz). I finally decided to throw Gentoo on it and haven't looked back since. Not only is the system much more responsive, but I've got all the applications I need. I still wish I had left an OS X partition for Mac-On-Linux, and I might.. *might*.. possibly reformat and setup an OS X partition for OS X only applications. _________________ open like a child's mind. |

I am positive! I switched over from Windows after playing a little with OS 10.2 on an iMac G4 700Mhz. OS X is indeed beautiful, and this is partly why I decided to go the whole hog and get myself a Powerbook G4 12". Lovely machine, but the sluggishness was starting to get to me, particularly as I had been previously used to 2GHz+ Windows machines.
Gentoo is MUCH more responsive on the same platform, no doubt about it. I've left a small partition on my hard drive for OS X so I can watch movies smoothly (my damn nvidia graphics are not supported in linux!), but not much else besides...
I just hope Steve Jobs announces new Aluminium Powerbook G5's tomorrow at Apple-Expo 2003, running a (supported in Linux) graphics chipset. That would be a dream come true...
Life is good, so good... But the thing is, it can still get even better! |

I am also quite impressed with Gentoo. Red Hat 7.3, 8.0, and 9.0 could not switch over from Windows XP. After I re-install Gentoo 1.4 and get KDE working smoothly, I actually plan to switch over. I just have to transfer many of my emails over too.
I am quite impressed. Makes you wonder why all the other distros exist, doesn't it??? |

Because once upon a time, people had to install KDE on their 300 mHz Pentium IIs with 64 MB of RAM. |
