I'm trying to get ad blocking working in Mozilla Firebird. I followed the instructions at http://texturizer.net/firebird/tips.html#lay_adblocking and put their userContent.css into /home/lorenb/.phoenix/default/yi24en27.slt/chrome

It doesn't work though, I still see all the ads. I'm not sure what the problem is. I just re-installed my system (due a GCC upgrade gone horribly wrong) but this had been working just fine previously.

Anyone have any ideas on how to make this work?

I don't use Firebird much, but found it in:

Toolbar at top, goto:
Tools/Options, then click on Web Features. Put a check mark in Block Popup Windows.

That's pop-up window blocking, which is on by default. I'm talking about blocking banner ads, flash advertisements and what not. I did have it working fine and it was great.

Oh, sorry. That is usually what I consider AD's. Other ads I usually have a mental block to just ignore them and read only what I want to.

Put a AD blocker on Windows once, but got tired of always having to add them to the list to block, seemed more trouble then the AD's.

I just found the content you were mentioning earlier and says it blocks 99%.

How bout this though. Try this: (AdBlock 0.3)
http://www.mozillazine.org/talkback.html?article=3270
Says available for Mozilla Firebird.

The userContent.css thing does block 99% of the ads, it was great, that's why I want it back :D

By the way, it should work in any Mozilla based browser from what I understand, it's not firebird specific.

I'm re-emerging mozilla-firebird-cvs right now to see if that helps. If not, I'll check out that AdBlock. Thanks.

why don't you just use the "block images from this server" function? in 1 or 2 weeks you will have blocked mostly if not all of the adv server of the sites you vist more often

The userContent.css method had worked for me for many months without issue. It wasn't a problem until I had to re-install my system yesterday.

I found out what the problem was. There was something about the way I cut/paste the code into userContent.css that Firebird didn't like.

I re-created the file and it works fine once again. Woo hoo! :D
