Do anyone of you know of a filesystem with deduplication support on block-level? Hopefully something that is in portage/gentoo-kernel that is easy to get going.
That would be perfect for my backup server. |

Implementation of file systems is normally up to your Kernel.
But for deduplication you could e.g. use SDFS which is an fuse file system. But if you need something from Portage you should also take a look at app-misc/fdupes. _________________ Refining Linux Advent calendar series 2010: “24 Short Linux Hints” |

Actually yes. Didn't know that but that's great and maybe even better because SDFS is written in Java. It uses FUSE which is implemented in C but SHFS itself is written in Java. I don't know who had this crazy idea but that guy should've been working for Apple or Adobe no one else would do such a bad thing. _________________ Refining Linux Advent calendar series 2010: “24 Short Linux Hints” |
