Dell Latitude CRT/LCD switch

I have a dell latitude E6400 with an nvidia Quadro video card. I am running the nvidia proprietary drivers. When I press the Fn+F8 keys the laptop is supposed to switch between the LCD and the external monitor but it is not working. Any ideas as to what may be causing this issue or how to fix it?

I thought that I would update this post with the fix that I found. There is a utility called disper which will handle the switch between displays. It is working great for me.
