This should be fairly easy for those who know.
I'm working on a gentoo guest vm. It's selinux capable, but it's turned off for the moment [enforcing=0].
I'm used to things just working. This is back to basics. On booting in. I get
Code: |
[ 11.252385] loop: module loaded
/usr/bin/startxfce4: Starting X server
Fatal server error:
Could not create lock file in /tmp/.tX0-lock
giving up.
xinit: Connection refused (errno 111): unable to connect to X server
xinit: No such process (errno 3): Server error.
* ERROR: xdm failed to start
|
So this is aimed at getting the xdm login screen to be activated. I can get to a console, level 3, and sartx and get in, but it would be nice yo have the xdm login working as it should. I am using xfce, a lightweight but effective WM for a vm guest.
So how is the lock file in /tmp/.tX0-lock created? _________________ idella4@aus |

ok,
Code: |
root@gentoo_pristine:/usr/src/linuxgentoo_pristine linux # ls -ld /tmp
drwxrwxrwt. 5 root root 4096 Sep 4 09:56 /tmp
|
for good measure.
Code: |
root@gentoo_pristine:/usr/src/linuxgentoo_pristine linux # ls -al /tmp
total 20
drwxrwxrwt. 5 root root 4096 Sep 4 09:56 .
drwxr-xr-x. 23 root root 4096 Aug 30 17:23 ..
drwxrwxrwt. 2 root root 4096 Sep 4 07:17 .ICE-unix
drwxrwxrwt. 2 root root 4096 Sep 4 07:17 .X11-unix
drwx--x--x. 4 root root 4096 Aug 27 09:01 .private

Okay, that's strange. Permission is set, no error there.
Is your Linux hardened anyhow? What happens if you just delete /tmp/.x11-unix? _________________ Refining Linux Advent calendar series 2010: “24 Short Linux Hints” |

yep, the linux is hardened. The kernel booting the vm is the current hardened kernel, selinux and PaX capable. I'll try it again tomorrow. It's after mn here. _________________ idella4@aus |
