Hi,
I need to assign a fixed address to my wired (eth0) network card in order for my router to forward ports to my laptop.
However I would like eth0 to get dhcp support for setting up all the other stuff like setting up my resolv.conf etc.
does anyone know the magic syntax that will do that in /etc/conf.d/net?
Cheers

You can probably go into your dhcp server's settings and instruct it to always assign a certain IP address to your eth0 card (identified by its MAC address). I use this method for accomplishing what you're trying to do.
By "dhcp server" I probably mean your router/modem/gateway combo device. Then you don't need to bother with any net config syntax and can stay using dhcp for configuration of your net info . |
