Hi Guys
I need a bit of advice. I want to listen to music located on a linux server [A] on two dockstars running linux[C,D] connected to stereos and my macbook (OS X) [B] from just about anywhere preferably.
The networks in between are quite diverse but i got ipv6 working almost everywhere with dynamical dns so i can somewhat reliably connect to hostnames and get forwarded to the right computer. Since the networks in between are diverse and often span across the internet nfs is out of the question really, sshfs doesn't work under mac os in my experience, so that leaves me with streaming music right? Are there other options?
Now my first attempt was to install mpd on the server and configure it to use esd and stream that to the clients which works, but has glitches every now and then o(10s) which is not really acceptable. My next attempt is http streaming to the the clients and have an mpd running there catching it but this is unstable (as in doesn't work half the time) and has glitches as well.
I then looked into jack but netjack is unsupported on macOS nowadays, so back to scratch. I can't find any info on nas on mac (even linux is a little sketchy).
What other options do i have. Is there a way to introduce buffering into esd?
Thanks in advance yours Max _________________ I'm a membar of Mesnar and me scull contains wakky secrets! |
