alsa pulse audio & static sounds...

Hi,

I have just setup pulse audio on my laptop, and something really weird is happening. I hope someone can help.

Whenever I play an audio file, it either comes out as all static, or I can hear the sound, but it has a lot of static accompanying it. After playing with my mixer settings and the pulse settings for a couple hours I have gleaned the following:

1) Whenever I have the volume of the master and the PCM all the way up, I can hear the sound + static, anything less, I only hear static

2) Even though I am listening through the laptop SPEAKERS (which work fine under windows, and used to work fine before pulse), I noticed that whenever I MUTE the HEADPHONES, I lose all sound.

3) When I plug in the headphones, no audio output is present -- no matter what settings I manipulate.


So, I think that somehow pulseaudio has not recognized my channels correctly... it thinks my speakers are my headphones, and my headphones are... God knows what...

Anyone have any idea how I can straighten this out?
