|

hiya all,
I've got this puter with a i810 onboard graphics card, and a screen which can do 1600x1200 @93.8kHzx75Hz.
the thing is, I got X up and running, I've got hardware accelleration going (a whopping 600fps with 1024x768 and 16bit color), and well, everything seems to be working well.
But theres this one thing which irritates me, and thats this:
When I startx, I get this thin white vertical line on the wee right end of the screen. When I move anything over it, the dimension of the object gets... squeezed... so that its smaller horizontally.
I think its got to do with the horiz & vert frequencies, but I dont really know what to do about it. Is it dangerous (shorten life-span of screen)?? How do I get rid of it?
thanks

Use the controls on your monitor to move the screen horizontally to the left - this is usually caused by a 'folding' of the image on older monitors. You will probably find you have to move it further than you expected... |

yeah, I tried that, the line seems to be independent of where the information is being "shot" at. So when I move the picture to the left, the line stays, and is now black (no image) below it.
but thanks anyway any other tips? _________________ http://blahonga.yanson.org - little geekblog

Hmmm, perhaps, as you suggest, the video card is driving the monitor at an unsupported frequency? Older monitors can be damaged by this, newer ones usually turn themselves off. |

I have a old ATI card (16mb) w/ TV-Out on my old gateway and if I bootup X at all it comes up with a 1in white line around the entire screen...
When I changed cards, it worked fine, but it turns out that card was a bad card so it would have never worked anyway |
