Hi, this is my first time runnning gentoo and everything is working fine. The only problem si the GRUB uses over a minute to load on startup.

The message on the screen is something like:
Code:
Loading stage 1.5

Please wait while GRUB is loading....

After over a minute the bootselector come up and i can boot gentoo.
Everything is <working>, but its kinda anoying to have a boottime on about 2 minutes.

The /boot/grub/grub.conf looks like this:
Code:

timeout 10
default 0
fallback 1

# For booting GNU/Linux
title  Gentoo
root (hd1,0)
kernel (hd1,0)/boot/bzImage root=/dev/hdd3

I have /boot/grub/menu.lst linked to /boot/grub/grub.conf

hdd1 is my /boot partition and its ext3
hdd2 is my swap
hdd3 is my / partition and its ReiserFS

Does anyone know what might be wrong?

Please post if you find the answer to this. I have the same problem on one computer. I'm thinking it may have something to do with the motherboard and its "raid" controller (MSI KT3 Ultra2 R).

Could you post your fstab?

And check your bios-settings.

my /etc/fstab

# glibc 2.2 and above expects tmpfs to be mounted at /dev/shm for
# POSIX shared memory (shm_open, shm_unlink).
# (tmpfs is a dynamically expandable/shrinkable ramdisk, and will
#  use almost no memory if not populated with files)
# Adding the following line to /etc/fstab should take care of this:

none                    /dev/shm        tmpfs           defaults                0 0

(tab doesnt work so i tried to make it look ok by adding space....)

My bios-settings are much to brag about, its a compaq pc with a compaq family-bios:-D

the problem could be a large harddrive:

Quote:

GRUB hangs when accessing my large IDE disk.
If your disk is bigger than 32GB, probably updating your mainboard BIOS will solve your problem. This bug is well-known and most vendors should provide fixed versions. For example, if you have ASUS-P3BF, upgrading the BIOS to V1007beta1 or later can fix it. Please ask your vendor, for more information.

from http://www.gnu.org/manual/grub/index.html
please read through the grub docs.
