Haven't seen this before
http://www.riseofpower.com/
$20 get you into the beta test and included an upgrade to the full game when it is released. Looks like they will be making a linux version. Seems this game is intended to compete with planetside (no linux version). |

Escape Velocity: Nova for Windows has just been release by Ambrosia Software. It's shareware, and it works wonderfully under WineX. I tested it with WineX-3.0 and needed to install the latest Quicktime, which also went without a hitch. The sound isn't perfect, but will do. |

It's not really new, but it was just added to Portage and I don't think it's been mentioned here yet.
Star Control 2 was a legendary game for DOS and 3DO, and the 3DO version has been released as free software as The Ur-Quan Masters and ported to SDL.
emerge uqm to install it. It's pretty big, 140 MB or so? |

Ahh! Can't wait to emerge it!
By the way, most of those MB's are for sound files for the conversations. IIRC, the Windoze version gives you the option to install them or not, you might have to check out the ebuild or something if you don't want to download them all. Anyways, there's about 114 MB of sound files for the conversations in Windoze. |

Hi,
Hope this is ok to post here. I've made an ebuild for Descent 2. It compiles with support for SDL, OpenGL, GGI and SVGAlib but I need help testing it before I submit it to portage.
Please don't reply here, use the post in Portage & Programming for suggestions, bug reports etc:
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=67942
Thanks
EDIT:
Descent 2 is now in portage: app-games/d2x

Wow, made my day here. I used to play to original mac game years back, and hassled the developers at the time for a Windows version.

I ought to add that now that I've been with Escape Velocity: Nova for a while in Linux and in Windows, it definitly loses speed in Linux - I was getting around 40 fps in Windows but only 10 in Linux. It's not a huge difference in practice, but it might be on a slightly less beastly machine :) |

Quote from gamespot.
Quote: | iGames Publishing and S2 Games have announced that Savage: The Battle for Neweth will ship with full Linux support. The Linux version will be functionally identical to its Windows counterpart and will ship on the same CD-ROM. The Linux version is already a part of the ongoing beta testing of the game. |

Another vote for Gents! This is definetly something lacking. Should take a few minutes to make an ebuild of this...
One of these days I have to start making more ebuilds myself, maybe then I won't be scared making them for all the apps I want ebuilds for _________________ Athlon XP 2000+ Palomino @ 1.667ghz

hlds-3.1.1.1d was released today (30 Jul 2003) and is now in portage ... it seems to play happy with glibc-2.3.x while previous versions did not
as for game ebuilds that dont exist in portage, please dont leave them on the forums ... the games team usually doesnt have time to crawl the forums looking for now ebuilds ...
we *highly* suggest you post a bug to bugs.gentoo.org so we can get it in asap ! |

Americas Army v1.9 is out. Haven't found any info about the updated port yet. Don't know even if it's gonna be another port or when if it's coming. Any info on this matter would be great.
P.S. There is a dedicated thread about this the Gamers & Players forum, but I think it's gonna be duped (was a bit hasty when I saw the news about the update). _________________ DnB is my religion, Jungle is my church. |

I *knew* i had seen this one before, but in case you guys didn't knew... from Linux Half-life:
Quote: | Valve announce Linux port of Half-Life- 1/4/2001- crazney
Yes ladies and gentlemen, its true..
In a press release on the morning of Sunday, 1st of April, 2001 Valve CEO Gabe Newell announced that they had secretly been working on a Linux port of the most popular game, Half-Life.
"We have taken alot of offensive email recently, asking for a port, all the while we have been secretly porting the game, it has been alot of fun."
Valve's marketing department speculate that Half-Life will be a top seller for the Linux platform, despite the fact its getting relitvly old, and that it seems to work flawlessly under WINE.
"We think that most of the Linux Half-Life players will purchase the game, in order to get native support, better performance and ofcourse to support the Linux gaming industry. Sales of Half-Life will determain if we port Teams Fortress 2 to linux".
So there you go people.. 1st of April 2001 will go down in the linux history books |
I guess it's better late than never! I'm dying to play those great modes in Linux without WINE.... the post is old, but i'm positive i read about it being finished somewhere - does anyone know? |
