|
|
Folks --
There have been a lot of posts in this forum about "check out such and such a game" or "version X of Game Y has been released". Up until now, I've been (mostly) moving these into General Linux since a) the game didn't have a Gentoo ebuild and/or b) there wasn't really a question or support request.
However, I can see how these types of posts might have value to the members of this forum. So, that's what this thread has now become.
Please post any/all new game announcements here. Let's try and avoid replies to announcements like, "woohoo -- that's so cool" or, "I can't wait to try it out!" or the thread will get too cluttered. Basically, if there is little or no substance to your reply, don't reply in the first place.
For those of you who care about new game announcements, you can use phpBB's nift "watch this topic" feature and get emailed when anyone posts something new to this thread.
This should be a good compromise between announcing new games and not letting the game forum get cluttered with non-Gentoo stuff.
Finally, if you have any comments or thoughts about this thread, please DO NOT post them here -- please send me a PM or post in Gentoo Forums. I don't want this thread to get cluttered up with debates about how cool/not cool this idea is.

Not exactly new, but maybe some missed it.
It is the 0.3 demo of Adonthell, not featuring the full game or part of the story but you can already walk around and talk and they have created an extra story for this demo. It's free software, so if you can help creating it if you want. The demo isn't very long of course but I have fun with it, it's a nice little story. It runs in 320x240 (but nice looking graphics) so you better put this resolution into your XF86Config to get fullscreen. It's available from here:
adonthell.linuxgames.com/
It would be awesome if someone could create an ebuild for it.
On a related note, make sure to check out the Ultima 1 remake (in realtime first person 3D) techdemo from here:
http://www.peroxide.dk/ultima/
The story is pretty dull but it's a techdemo after all... The engine is very impressive for a freeware RPG and you will need a fast CPU and 3D acceleration.
Just to wet your appetite:

Just discovered this over on linuxgames.
Vendetta http://vendetta.guildsoftware.com/
Haven't had much time to check it out (just a quick deathmatch) but basically it's a 3D space shooter, intended as a test for an upcoming multi-platform MMORG.
Graphics are good, gameplay is good (Deathmatch, CTF, Co-op) but registration is limited so hurry up if you want to give it a try. |

emerge advancemame if you don't already have the latest version of mame (0.61), but mainly for the excellent frontend they have also been developing along side it - advmenu.
you can even use the frontend for other emus/programs. great program!
check it out the webpage at http://advancemame.sourceforge.net _________________ [resident anime junkie] -- not just a linux freak. |

maxmc's question has been split to advancemame and sdl-config. This thread is for announcements only. Please don't post questions in this thread. _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |

Virtual Jap Peak, which is based on Soulride, looks pretty awesome.
Unfortunately it's a binary and it doesn't work on my gentoo 1.4 as it appears it was compiled with gcc 2.9x.
The should give RMS the authority to GPL everything. _________________ Want Free games?

A Beta installer for Serious Sam has been released (05-Dec-2002)
You can download it from here:
http://icculus.org/betas/ssam/
You only need the original Windows CD. It works pretty well. |

3d realms released the source code for Rise of the Triad on 12-20-02(or something like that).
Rise of the Triad is a fps shooter that came out around 1994(the doom era) but was better than doom.
The data for the game is still proprietary and 3drealms still sells it for $15 usd(expensive, in my opinion, for such an old game). There are shareware versions available for free though.
Anyway, The code is supposedly compileable under linux/unix and I am sure there are will be binary ports very soon. Anyone interested would be advised to check www.icculus.org. In fact, icculus.org is a good place to look for much linux games related info(I believe icculus is the handle for a former loki games employee).
Well, In the mid 90s I enjoyed playing it. My friends and I played it over 14.4 modems and null modem cables. Lots of gore, lightening, dog modes...neat stuff. _________________ I use a 33.6kbps dial up connection.
