I'm getting a "Couldn't disable kernel command translation layer" error when I try to rip an audio CD (that I own) on this drive. Can anyone explain (or guess) what this means?

Toshiba tecra 8000 (P2 266)
vanilla 2.4.22 kernel
adaptec usb2connect pcmcia card
mitsubishi 52x burner in a generic usb2.0 box (PINE as manufacturer)

Any chance that I've messed things up by compiling the usb 1.1 and 2.0 drivers into the kernel? Should I have gone the modules route?

Everything else that I've tried with this drive seems to work, with the exception of audio playback.

Ripping of CDs (that I own, for archival purposes in case the RIAA is watching) does work and is very quick.

The error message appears to be coming from the cdparanoia library that is used for the ripping. The message also appears when I run 'cdparanoia -vsQ' in the 'Checking for SCSI emulation' section:

Checking for SCSI emulation...
Drive is ATAPI (using SCSI host adaptor emulation)
Couldn't disable kernel command translation layer

Can I safely ignore this message?

Any ideas on how to get the drive to play audio? It's actually a MITSUMI CR-48xGTE.

You may need root privelege to "disable kernel command translation layer". If everything is working, then it may not matter. For instance, I get an error when burning a CD about not changing the scheduler, but the CD still burns fine.
