I followed this guide to install compiz-fusion under xfce. After starting compiz-fusion through the provided startup script, I no longer have menu bars on my windows, making them immovable. I also lost my regular cursor to a big black X.

I was able to get some menu bars working after

eselect opengl set numbergoeshere

to enable 3d video acceleration.

Here is my xorg.conf:

see if emerald (or whatever compiz' wm is called) is running, (re)start it manually if neccessary. there should be some startup-scripts around capable of doing that automagically.
GOOD LUCK!

The WM is emerald and you can start it with "emerald --replace". The easiest way is to put it into your Session and Startup > Application Autostart. I've been using Xfce/Compiz/Emerald for quite some time and it is a nice mix of lightweight and snazzy.

Have you tried setting your cursor with Mouse > Theme?

Oh, and you can move undecorated windows by holding down Alt and dragging with your left mouse button. Alt+middle resizes and Alt+right brings up a menu; Minimize, Maximize, Move, etc.

The startup script is in the tutorial provided on the gentoo wiki.
