|
|
I just booted up a system with a 1 TB drive and it decided to do a default 23-boot check.
Pause. Wait 5 minutes. Twiddle thumbs. Contemplate nature of universe.
I'd like to suggest that the interval be set to 0 by default and that every 60 or so boots a message can appear that it might be good to regularly check your fs.
Seriously, I can't imagine those with multi-TB drives. Might as well go to bed if they all check at once.
(Yes, I know about tune2fs. I'm talking about changing the default Gentoo behaviour.) _________________ decibel Linux: https://decibellinux.org

Indeed, and for the record, how long does it take to check a fs on a 1 TB hdd ?
With a EXT4 partition, I see that the check for a 100 gigs is really fast if you compare with ext3. |

I don't see the problem. fsck.ext4 takes seconds on my ~900GB /home partition. |

From my experience, an ext3 converted to ext4 filesystem fsck is still significantly slower that a fresh ext4, probably since most of the sructures are left unchanged.
Also, if you don't like fsck, doesn't changing the pass column in fstab to zero disable it? |
