|
|
Hello,
I am having trouble getting microphone to work on my DELL Vostro 1400 laptop. I've read thru Gentoo ALSA Guide and the playback works just fine, but microphone doesn't work (tested with arecord and Skype).
Configuration of the system was done mostly according to this.
So my kernel options in GRUB look like this:
Code: | kernel /boot/kernel-2.6.34-gentoo-r6 snd-hda-intel.model=laptop-eapd |
More information:
Laptop:
* DELL Vostro 1400 with Intel HD Audio
* BIOS version A09 (newest afaik)
Code: | uname -a
Linux yyy 2.6.34-gentoo-r6 #18 SMP Thu Oct 7 13:46:29 CEST 2010 x86_64 Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T5470 @ 1.60GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux |
Code: | lspci | grep -i audio

Code: | lspci -k

Subsystem: Dell Device 0227
Kernel driver in use: HDA Intel |
Code: | cat /proc/asound/Intel/codec* | grep Codec
Codec: SigmaTel STAC9228

My AlsaMixer (here I was confused a bit, because most of the threads were referring to ticking Mic and Boost for capture but as you can see here I am unable to do so).
Output of amixer: pastebin.
I could also mention that neither integrated microphone (on the laptop) nor the mic jack work. Otoh, in Windows (XP, Vista and 7, I had installed all of them over the course of time) the mic works just fine so HW failure can be eliminated from "the list".
I am sort of lost now so if anyone could point me in the right direction as where to look next, I'd be glad.

alsamixer -V all
toggle f4
toggle capture on digital (space bar), raise volume, toggle capture on mic inl (space bar), raise volume, toggle capture on captures (space bar), raise volume
a previous struggle
guessing mic in is external, digital internal |

I run gentoo on a vostro 1400. I don't remember mic in being a problem, but it's been a while since I tested it. I don't know if the built in microphone works. I'm not really in a position to test it at the moment, but I'll look into it later today.
Edit: I'm at school, but I was able to do a preliminary test with my sound muted. I used audacity and watched the recording levels for when the digital (built in) mic was set as the input source in alsamixer, and from what the recording levels looked like, it appears to be working. I'll test this some more and post the relevant sections of my kernel config when I get home. |

Thank you very much, choosing "Digital Mic" on capture (the first one, without a number) did the trick.
I am sorry for my rather stupid question, which, I guess, came from the fact that I got confused by the whole alsamixer thingy looking a bit different than most of the guides showed.
Anyways, I hope this will help anyone stumbling upon the same problem as I had. |
