Grub returns error 15 cant find file on boot

Ive done a complete stage 2 install. When I compiled the gen kernal it said the names were
/boot/kernel-2.4.20-gentoo-r5
/boot/initrd-2.4.20-gentoo-r5

So I configured grub.conf as follows

default 0
timeout 30
splashimage=(hd0,0)/boot/grub/splash.xpm.gz

title=Gentoo Linux
root (hd0,0)
kernel (hd0,0)/boot/kernel-2.4.20-gentoo-r5 root=/dev/hda3
initrd (hd0,0)/boot/initrd-2.4.20-gentoo-r5

At the grub screen I get the following error when I hit enter
# Error 15 File not found

Any suggestions?
