well I screwed up big this time....
Just finished a fresh install and booted for the first time. just as the boot process hangs at
"* Mounting proc at /proc"
I remember ...I FORGOT TO MOUNT PROC before i chroot'ed into /mnt/gentoo!!!! AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! *smack forehead on table*
Is there an easier way to fix this other than starting all over again?
thx,

Hmm, that shouldn't matter since you've rebooted and mounts don't persist across boots.
I suspect you haven't got a /proc mountpoint. Try booting from the LiveCD, mount /dev/<root> /mnt/gentoo and mkdir /mnt/gentoo/proc and see if that helps.
( <root> == your root partition, of course )
No you do not need to reinstall. Linux isn't flakey like some OSes... you can usually fix anything without reinstalling. |

No problem.
Almost everything in GNU/Linux has a logical and explainable raison-d'etre - my advice is, don't panic
Glad I could help out. Enjoy your new Gentoo installation. |
