yes i know 9999 packages are unstable. The packages fail the first time and then the second time i build them they emerge successfully. |

OWNSyouAll,
That could be because you get new (fixed) source code but if there is a trend, thats unlikely.
Check your RAM and CPU temp. Such errors are usually hardware related in some way. _________________ Regards,

My cpu and hdd temps are within the ranges you have gave. The emerge are done right after each other and they check the git repository and find theres no newer source and then continue compiling and then it emerges successfully. Even in non 9999 packages i have noticed that this happens. |

OWNSyouAll,
Its probably not temperatures then.
Take the lid off the system and inspect the tall cylinderical parts close to the CPU, there will be about 10 of them, all identical.
These are the capacitors in the Vcore regulator and are key to keeping the CPU core operating voltage within its limits.
They get a very hard life. Its hot next to the CPU and they have to handle a very high ripple current, which heats them further.
Look for domed tops and rubber bungs being pushed out the bottom, possibly with a thick wet looking material oozing out.
If you see any signs like this, the fix is to replace the whole set, which is not too bad if you can use a soldering iron. _________________ Regards,

sorry for the really really long reply but i did check the capacitors they all appear to be good. I recently add more ram to the machine and ran memtest86+ for about 8 hours and got some errors. I'm not sure whether or not this was the new or the old ram will know in about 2 days. |
