Hello all. Recently I made a fresh Gentoo install on my new laptop. For quite some time on Linux and all time spent on Gentoo I used KDE. In order to make GTK apps look nice in KDE, I've used gtk-chtheme (mainly qtcurve style + 9px font size). That was whole procedure and it worked like a charm.

After fresh install, I did the same thing. However, GTK apps respect chosen style but not declared font size. I haven't used Gentoo from end of July, so it is quite possible that something changed and I am not aware what exactly. Searched the forums, however haven't found anything useful. Tried with kcm_gtk also, but the result is the same.

Here are some relevant information:

My .gtkrc-2.0:

Code:

# -- THEME AUTO-WRITTEN DO NOT EDIT
include "/usr/share/themes/QtCurve/gtk-2.0/gtkrc"

style "user-font" {
        font_name = "Sans 9"
}

widget_class "*" style "user-font"

gtk-font-name="Sans 9"

gtk-theme-name  = "QtCurve"

include "/home/kuki/.gtkrc.mine"

# -- THEME AUTO-WRITTEN DO NOT EDIT

Xdpyinfo output for dimensions and resolution:

Code:

resolution:    96x96 dots per inch
dimensions:    1280x800 pixels (338x211 millimeters)

Try "Use my KDE fonts in GTK apps" in kcm_gtk.
Here's my gtkrc:
Code:
include "/usr/share/themes/QtCurve/gtk-2.0/gtkrc"
include "/etc/gtk-2.0/gtkrc"

style "user-font"
{
   font_name="DejaVu Sans"
}
widget_class "*" style "user-font"

gtk-theme-name="QtCurve"
gtk-font-name="DejaVu Sans 9"

Tried it, but problem remains. Tried with you .gtkrc also, but font size is still the same. :? Thank you anyway.

Other ideas?

I run run GTK apps under e16. I use LXAppearance to adjust the style and the font size. I believe everything is done via these two files:
Code:
$ cd
$ head .gtkrc-2.0*
==> .gtkrc-2.0 <==
# DO NOT EDIT!  This file will be overwritten by LXAppearance.
# Any customization should be done in ~/.gtkrc-2.0.mine

gtk-theme-name="my-Blue-Joy"
gtk-icon-theme-name="ROX"
gtk-font-name="DejaVu Sans 10"
gtk-toolbar-style=1
include "/home/juser/.gtkrc-2.0.mine"

==> .gtkrc-2.0.mine <==
include "/usr/share/themes/Emacs/gtk-2.0-key/gtkrc"
gtk-key-theme-name="Emacs"
gtk-double-click-time = 250

After little experimenting, it seems that GTK apps respect defined font size in .gtkrc, only in case QtCurve theme/style is not used. Currently, with Raleigh font's size is ok. Obviously, there is something "wrong" with gtkrc from QtCurve. :? I have installed keyworded version of gtk-engines-qtcurve - 1.8.1. I'll try with older version ("stable" one) and I'll report my findings later. :)

UPDATE:

It seems that problem is also present with older gtk-engines-qtcurve. Other GTK themes are not causing font size problem. Raleigh, Murrine, Nuvola and Nodoka tested.
