I have 4 primary partitions on my hard drive and I would like to add a fifth. I know that this requires a logical partition.
My question is: is it possible to do this without removing and losing the data on partition 4? It seems like parted or something should be able to do this since it is just moving things around the partition table. However, I have not been able to figure out how it could be done.
Is there a way, or am I going to have to re-install everything on partition 4? I intend to do the back up, but I would rather do it in a way that I had a shot at not having to re-install. |

I think that you will lose your 4th partition.
Indeed, the logiciel partition will be at /dev/sda5 and your extended partition will be use with /dev/sda4.
Backup your stuff, I think that you will lose your data for sure. |
