Hi,

As with a lot of people I am having problems with my mouse and keyboard after an upgrade. I've looked around and it seems that HAL is depreciated for xorg-server 1.8 and above, so that various applications have been installed with "-hal". I assume this is the problem that I am having, although I'm not 100% on that.

I thought the most obvious solution would be to upgrade xorg-server on my computer. I have xorg-server 1.7.7-r1, however, I can't see any more recent versions in portage. Are there more recent versions of xorg-server available in portage? If so where?

Otherwise do people have any other suggestions?

TAI

The current versions of of xorg-server is portage are:
- 1.7.6
- 1.7.7-r1
- 1.8.2
- 1.9.2
- 1.9.2.902

Two things... 1) make sure to run an `emerge --sync` if you haven't, and 2) Versions above 1.7.7-r1 are ~arch masked still, since they haven't completed testing. You will need to unmask xorg-server-1.8.2 and its dependencies if you want to update before it's marked stable.

Thanks for the response.

I tried 'emerge --sync' before but with no luck.

I think I will try unmasking version 1.8.2. Do you think this is the best option to my problem? Or is there a more stable alternative?

How do I find out what dependencies I need to unmask for xorg-server-1.8.2?

whole 1.8.x series got skipped for stable on purpose...

1.9.2 is next stable, and already is stable for 64bit powerpc, see https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=344827

for amd64/x86 it's just matter of someone doing the commit work (i've already offered to do that for amd64, only waiting for x86's reply if I should mark it stable for them too while at it)
propably today or tomorrow, but no promises

OK, cool.

I'll wait for the new release then.

Thanks for the info.
