well guys i am back after a long hiatus (8 years long) I've being using Iris, OS400 and Solaris for too loooong. my last Gentoo install was in 2001 gentoo 1.2 and i know a lot has changed since. got a nice little rig ready to install Gentoo the only way a nut case like me should from scratch, using stage 1 and perhaps funtoo stages . I have 4 days to get it going on a low power amd 64 915e CPU 2.5 Ghz quad. it sure beats my old pentium 850 mhz of 2001 and back then it tooked me 7 days to compile with full blown gnome and open office .
i guess the question is : I don't care for evolution, java support on open office, pulse audio at all (I actually think that pulse audio is a curse). i want a nice stream lined fast gnome environment.
anybody out there has done what i am intending to do .. please feel fee to chip in.
cheers

Hmmm. My gnome-light world file includes:
Code: | gnome-base/gnome-applets
gnome-base/gnome-light
gnome-extra/gcalctool
gnome-extra/gconf-editor
gnome-extra/gnome-user-docs
gnome-extra/gnome-utils

No PA here, but I do use evo. I've switched to oo-bin recently because emerging oo-source is such a lengthy ordeal on my limited hw. One of my motivating factors for gnome-light was so I could ditch epiphany. (Why must gnome include a parochial browser?) |

For now, pulseaudio is still optional, but it looks like it may become mandatory in future versions (Gnome3 / gtk+3). |
