After doing an emerge world, I found myself with a new version of xorg which didn't see the drivers, and did not work. This is in case anyone has a similar problem, the solution is easy. Identify the names of the drivers by doing emerge --search xf86 . Then check which ones are installed and do emerge -1 for the list of those that are installed. |

That's why it's a good practice to read all the WARN and LOGS that emerge spit out at the end of the process.
If you missed the warnings from your last "emerge", use the eread tool (part of app-portage/gentoolkit):
Code: | $ eread
>>> Messages generated by process 6307 on 2010-12-23 19:55:24 CET for package x11-base/xorg-server-1.9.2:
LOG: postinst
You should consider reading upgrade guide for this release:
http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/desktop/x/x11/xorg-server-1.9-upgrade-guide.xml
WARN: postinst
You must rebuild all drivers if upgrading from <xorg-server-1.9
because the ABI changed. If you cannot start X because
of module version mismatch errors, this is your problem.
You can generate a list of all installed packages in the x11-drivers
category using this command:
emerge portage-utils; qlist -I -C x11-drivers/ |
As you can see from above, portage warns you to emerge again the drivers |
