Hi there,

I am trying to get the BackupExec Remote Agent for Linux to install on my Gentoo server. Its a pretty simple operation using the installralus script provided.
http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH46461

The problem is that it does not work 100% on Gentoo but suposedly this should fix it.

When I try to install the rpm it just gives me a segmentation fault. I just finished getting this system upgraded so here is my emerge --info
http://pastebin.com/QkiwTatN

The ./installralus script creates a log and when it tried to install the rpm it fails. My guess is that its failing because of the segmentation fault in rpm while installing the package.

If I try to force the rpm to install I get a segmentation fault that I think is the root problem

I also tried to just test the rpm and it shows a lot of failures but manually checking them shows they are all there.

And the full logs from the rpm.

Thanks.

I don't want to sound harsh but why don't you consider doing a TAR of things you want to backup from your Linux server(s) and put them onto a Windows share that you backup with whatever you want? This is how I'd do for I would never, ever install BackupExec on a Linux server. And certainly not on one of my Gentoo servers, for sure :D. Unless you have very, very specific reasons, of course.

It's far easier to restore a Linux system using the tools Linux provides than going the proprietary way, especially that of BackupExec. I'd leave BackupExec to the Windows world. A TAR file really contains everything you need for a bare-metal restore.

I need to backup directly from the gentoo server to my tape auto-loader. Its to much data to move over to my windows server. I plan on creating a compressed mysqldump for my databases to the same directory I store my flat files and then backup all the flat files directly to tape with the mysqldump.

Thanks though.

Have you considered Bacula? I have installed it (older version though) and it's quite functional. Never failed.
