I am using MythTV and Sasc-NG, unfortunately I don't have an ebuild for vdr-sasc-ng.
Also even more unfortunately I am using two Hauppauge cards, the Nova-T 500 Dual DVB-T model which is very very
buggy.

Hi,
I am trying to compile sascng for usage with mythtv myself at this moment; however, I cannot get it to work. Now I found this post in the forum stating you were trying to achieve the same thing.
I manage to compile the module, but when modprobing it it fails:
Code: | MediaServer sasc-ng # modprobe dvbloopback
FATAL: Error inserting dvbloopback (/lib/modules/3.2.0-gentoo-r1/misc/dvbloopback.ko): Invalid module format
MediaServer sasc-ng #

DNM, you have it working, can you give some more infomration about how to compile the right version of sascng?
Did you ( or anyone else) manage to get it working with Mythtv in the meantime , and how did you do it ?
Thanks !
Alex. |

I have had several problems with getting dvbloopback to work. However not that one.
Googling gives among other things compiling against something other than the running kernel, or compiling the kernel and the module with different enough compilers, etc.
Unfortunately I am no longer running a MythTV box. I now have a dedicated proprietary pvr box after tiring of the buggy Hauppauge cards. Kept using the computer as a samba/media server. Late December the raid where I had the patched sources suffered a severe failure… fsck went crazy at one bootup check (raid/jfs). |

Do you run the stock sasc-ng code, or the patched one?
What's the version of the kernel you're currently running? (uname -a)
I'm running mythtv + sasc-ng, but currently using a 2.6.32 kernel. I'll probably try an upgrade this week (there were issues previously in using sasc on a kernel > 2.6.32 because of major changes in the DVB code in the kernel). _________________ Foo. |

Hi,
(Sorry for this late reaction, I was away for some time).
I used the version I get from ( so unpatched I guess?) :
Code: | hg clone http://85.17.209.13:6100/sc |
Kernel version: 3.2.0-gentoo-r1
So, compile seems to work, I can load the module, and i can execute:
Code: | ./sascng -j 0:3 -j 1:4 -j 2:5
|
which gives
Code: | starting thread on /dev/devb/adapter3/demux1 |
etc for the various devices.
However, when I then try to look at the adapters using Kaffeine, it indicates my adapters 3 until 5 as "DVB-S" (while the original are dvb-t (adapter0) and dvb-c ( adapter 1 and 2) .
So this is strange, can/should I tell sasc that I am using dvb-t?
Or does this mean it is just not working the way it should? |

Ok, I got a bit further ( just posting for the case others are having the same issues) :

Indeed, it appears that there is some major incompatibility (as Kazar mentioned) between the dvb-parts of newer and older kernels.
A kernelpatch can be used to solve this , described here: http://dolot.kipdola.com/wiki/Compile_Linux .
And then recompiling and installing sasc makes it work for me for kernel 3.2.6 , at least I can now watch the unencrypted channels via the virtual device.
Now trying to use my smartcard to actually watch the other channels |
