Hi all,
I'm trying to mount a new kindle which I bought via the USB port. Others have described success in doing so, though I am having zero luck. When I plus it into the USB, nothing happens to the kindle and I see no notification in dmesg. I've had no problems using USB sticks and have a portable HDD which is connected via USB.
Has anybody successfully gotten this to work? Do I need to modify my kernel?
Best,
Alex

Nothing in dmesg sounds weird. I'd check if this kindle works with some other computer or booting from some LiveCD. |
I just tried it on two other computers. The first was a modern ubuntu box and the other was a gentoo box which was a bit older. The kindle seemed to work fine in both cases. Of those machines, the ubuntu box has USB 2.0, but the gentoo box is, I think, only a USB 1.0 system. That seems to rule out hardware as the cause. I looked at the dmesg output from the gentoo box and the Kindle attached as a "scsi generic sg2 type 0". I then compared my .config files from my home machine and the work machine. I am betting this is the cause, so when I have a bit of time this evening, I will recompile the kernel on my home machine with the generic scsi drivers to see if that makes a difference. I will report back on any success (or failure).
Best,

Hi,
Silly me, the monitor's USB hub wasn't connected to the computer (I recently had to move everything out of the room). I also built the generic scsi driver into the kernel.
Best,
