will give you the version of all the packages it will install |

Gnome 2.4 is still masked, IIRC. If you want to emerge it do:

emerge /usr/portage/gnome-base/gnome/gnome-2.4.ebuild
|
Depending on your setup, you might need to do:

ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge /usr/portage/gnome-base/gnome/gnome-2.4.ebuild

| This might need to be changed soon... I'm not sure if it is only my problem, but I tried to emerge gnome 2.2 but it wouldn't let me. It told me to get gnome 2.4, but it was masked. |

Well, if you are planning to upgrade to 2.4 once it is marked stable, then you are better off just waiting. It can be a rocky upgrade path from 2.2 to 2.4. |
