|
|
Hi, i got an problem with Grub, i am installing gentoo on a Gigabyte H55N-USb3 MB and am chrootet in the gentoo sys via the gentoo minimal image.
Now the problem, when i install grub-static (because of nomultilib) i get a message which says:
IMPORTANT NOTE:
You must run grub and install the new version stage1 to your MBR.
Until you do stage1 and stage2 will still be the old versions, but later stages wíll be the new versions which could case conflicts
this means you should either grub-install or perform root/setup manuelly
first i ignored the message and was wondering about the missing grub.conf
then i made my grub.conf manuelly and rebooted i became:
Grub loading Operationg System
Stage 1,5
The same message was also there as i was booting from my allready working gentoo, so its could be a BIOS problem...
now on would can i do to install grub?
Cheers |

boot cd, use your device names if different: Code: | mount /dev/sda3 /mnt/gentoo
mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/gentoo/boot
mount -t proc none /mnt/gentoo/proc
mount -o bind /dev /mnt/gentoo/dev
chroot /mnt/gentoo /bin/bash
env-update
source /etc/profile
export PS1="(chroot) $PS1"
emerge grub
grub
find /boot/grub/stage1 | Answer should be in the form ; substitute the actual values for x and y below. If you get more than one answer: Code: | emerge wgetpaste
fdisk -l | wgetpaste
mount | wgetpaste
lspci -l /boot | wgetpaste
wgetpaste /boot/grub/grub.conf
wgetpaste /etc/fstab | post url's returned.
else:
Code: | root (hdx,y) # should return /boot file system type
setup (hdx) | should tell you something like
Quote: |
quit[/code]Checking if "/boot/grub/stage1" exists... yes
Checking if "/boot/grub/stage2" exists... yes
Checking if "/boot/grub/reiserfs_stage1_5" exists... yes
Running "embed /boot/grub/ext2fs_stage1_5 (hdx)"... 20 sectors are embedded
.
succeeded
Running "install /boot/grub/stage1 (hd0) (hd0)1+20 p (hd0,1)/boot/grub/stage2
/boot/grub/menu.lst"... succeeded
Done. | If still having grub problems: Code: | emerge wgetpaste
fdisk -l | wgetpaste
mount | wgetpaste
lspci -l /boot | wgetpaste
wgetpaste /boot/grub/grub.conf
wgetpaste /etc/fstab | post url's returned. _________________ Defund the FCC. |

seems that the bios scips with this options something what grub needs..
i will get in next time a H67 MB so the new one with EFI, do i just have to use GRUB2 or are there more things to look for (should be the same like with Apple PCs) |
