I just tried to delete my /dev/hdb9 parition using cfdisk, but cfdisk somehow deleted my /dev/hdb6 parition (a large data partition) and reordered my paritions. Now my data partition no longer exists. Does anyone have some suggestions on recovering the data on that partition? It was originally ext3 and cfdisk reports it as empty space without a device number.
Thanks |

Let me add a bit of info:
Running fdisk -l /dev/hdb gives:
Disk /dev/hdb: 120.0 GB, 120034123776 bytes
16 heads, 63 sectors/track, 232581 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 1008 * 512 = 516096 bytes
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hdb1 * 1 2031 1023592+ 82 Linux swap
/dev/hdb2 2032 232581 116197200 5 Extended
/dev/hdb5 2032 12189 5119600+ 83 Linux
/dev/hdb6 34538 39615 2559280+ 83 Linux
/dev/hdb7 12190 18284 3071848+ 83 Linux
/dev/hdb8 18285 34537 8191480+ 83 Linux
Partition table entries are not in disk order
Some notes here:
/dev/hdb6 used to be /dev/hdb9 (it's still intact despite having tried to delete it with cfdisk) and /dev/hdb2 used to be /dev/hdb9
Attemping to mount /dev/hdb2 as ext2 or 3 gives the usual:
root 138 files 98Mb -> mount -t ext3 /dev/hdb2 /dir/
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/hdb2,
or too many mounted file systems
(aren't you trying to mount an extended partition,
instead of some logical partition inside?) |
