I updated my laptop from KDE-3.5.10 to KDE-4.4.5 today (finally).
Launching KDM (via /etc/init.d/xdm) works fine. I am able to input my credentials and log in, at which point I see the splash screen. Once the splash screen disappears, however, all I can see is my mouse cursor and a black background.
I assume this has something to do with plasma not launching correctly?
I am able to press alt+f2 and run programs that way, but obviously it's quite a degraded desktop experience.
I saw some errors in .xsession-errors about DBus, so I added the policykit use flag for HAL, which suppressed those errors but didn't have any other visible effect.
Of course, I have tried fully removing all .kde* directories with X stopped (no effect).
Any ideas?

Jon | Yeah, I did revdep-rebuild ... no dice.
I just upgraded to gentoo-sources-2.6.37 and now it works, so perhaps it was a GPU bug in 2.6.35-r1.
